Walter Reeves Emerson, 87, of Freeville, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
"Walt" was born in Danby, NY on May 18,1927 to the late Claude and Pearl (Reeves) Emerson. He attended school in Ithaca, NY and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After he served in the Army he worked for Southside Fuel Co. in Ithaca for many years and later retired from Ehrhart Propane.
He married Beverly Sickmon on June 26, 1954, and they lived in Freeville and had two children, Sharry and Steven. Walt was one in a million. He was an avid gardener, growing many different types of flowers to vegetables in his gardens. He was well liked by everyone that he had the pleasure of knowing and always seemed to know someone no matter where he went.
Walt is survived by his Daughter, Sharry Mancini of Spencer, Granddaughters, Alaina Mancini, Megan Mancini, and Angela (Joseph) Palanza. Four Great Granddaughters, Kabrina Jayne, Alea Westervelt, Gabriella and Isabella Palanza. Two Brothers, Francis Emerson of Groton, Roger Emerson of Texas, and nephew Roger Frye of Groton.
He is predeceased by his wife Beverly in 1993, his Son Steven in 2008, Sister Helen Frye, Brothers Charles and Robert, and infant Brother Gordon.
There will be a burial ceremony at the Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden at a later date.
Donations can be made in Walters name to a charity of one's choice.
