Robert D. McNamara… Elmira, NY (formerly of Clark Street, Waverly, NY) Age 97,
died peacefully at the Skilled Nursing Facility at St. Joseph's Hospital with his family and SNF staff at his side, on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Bob was born on June 7, 1913 in Ithaca, NY, the son of Henry and Catherine (Walsh) McNamara. He is predeceased by his wife Agnes (Hughes) McNamara and son, Patrick J. McNamara.
Bob is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Marie and Al Madigan of Campbell, NY.; son and daughter-in-law Robert M. and Theresa McNamara of Elmira, NY; daughter-in-law, Marilyn McNamara of Boynton Beach, Florida; grandchildren Keirin and Kathryn McNamara both of Syracuse: Michael McNamara of Manhattan; Thomas and Amy McNamara of Romansville, PA; Robert and Elizabeth McNamara of Winston-Salem, NC; Patrick and Vanessa McNamara of Syracuse, NY; Joseph McNamara of Philadelphia, PA; Mary McNamara of Boston, MA and Kristin McNamara of Elmira, NY; great-grandchildren Kayla, Grace, Elizabeth, Aidan and Ava; sister-in-law Betty Hughes of Waverly, friend, Frances Rodzai, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins and faithful family companion, "Mookie".
Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. For most of his adult life, he was the manager of the Grand Union Grocery Store in Waverly. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and American Legion in Waverly. He was a communicant of St. James Church, volunteering to set up for daily Mass during his retirement years. For the past 10 years Bob has lived with his family in Elmira and at the Skilled Nursing Facility at St. Joseph's Hospital where he received tender, loving care. He was always known as a gentle and kind man and wonderful role model.
Friends are invited to call on the family Saturday morning October 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Saint James Church Blessed Trinity Parish Clark Street Waverly NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday October 23rd. Internment will follow in Saint James Cemetery.
