Robert H. Aronstam, M.D.
of Waverly
Robert H. Aronstam, M.D., 89, of Waverly, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, at the Robert Packer Hospital, after a very brief illness. Born July 8, 1924, in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Anna Marie (Talmadge) and Abram Aronstam, and the loving husband of Margaret Louise (Fairbanks) Aronstam. Robert was predeceased by his brother, Elmore Aronstam.
Robert served in the United States Army during World War II. He then joined the US Public Health Service as a physician, and retired after 20 years. In 1966, he moved to Waverly to become the 26th Physician at the Guthrie Clinic. He retired from the Guthrie Clinic in 1989, but continued to practice part-time for another ten years. He graduated from Columbia University and Long Island Medical School. Robert enjoyed sailing in Cape Cod and Eagles Mere. Robert was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, enjoyed photography and loved to play the trumpet.
Surviving Robert are his wife of 69 years, Margaret Louise Aronstam, his children, Robin (Joseph) Gower, of NJ, Christine (William) Pedrick, of Elmira, Robert S. (Joan) Aronstam, of MO., Andrew (Patricia) Aronstam, of Waverly, and grandchildren, Margaret, Sarah (Justin), Mariah, Abigail, David, Emily (Jason), Robert A. (Susan), Elizabeth, Alexandra and Andrew Jackson.
Family and friends are invited to call Friday October 4, 2013 at the Luckner Funeral Home, 449 Park Avenue, Waverly, NY, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 5, at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, Park Avenue, Waverly.
