Richard Evans

Of Waverly

Richard C. Evans peacefully passed away at Elderwood health Care on Thursday July 22, 2010 of natural causes. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 6, 1916 to Cecil and Edna R. Evans.

Richard attended South Kent Academy in Conn. Graduated from Fairfield CT. High School in 1934 also attended Michigan State university.

While at Fairfield, he was active in varsity sports, as Captain of the swim team. He and his three brothers were gifted swimmers and won many awards in their high school and college years.

Richard served in the Merchant Marines prior to World War II, and later served in the 346 ^th Engineer Regiment in Germany during World War II. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.

He retired from Stroehman Bros. Bakery in 1978 as a salesman supervisor. Then devoted his time to travel and caring for his home .

Richard was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Snyder Evans, his sister, Jane Montange, brothers, Charles Evans and James Evans and an infant daughter Dale.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan, his sons; Richard C. (Karen) Evans, of Massilon, OH, Donald (Wilma) Evans, of Templeton, MA. Robert (Susan) Evans, of Littleton, CO. and Dana (Beverly) Evans, of Aurelia, Iowa, stepsons; Samuel (Alice) McNett, of Deposit, NY., Mark McNett, of Hilo, HI. Miles (Lynn) McNett, of Pine City, NY and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as his brother Donald R. (Betty) Evans, of Honey Brook, PA.

His main pride was the accomplishments of his sons and his home.

Per Richard's wishes no funeral services will be held. Remembrances may be to the Stray Haven Animal Shelter. Arrangements are with the Luckner Funeral Home 449 Park Avenue Waverly, NY.
