IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard K.
"Dick" Frantz
July 27, 1930 – July 10, 2011
Richard K. "Dick" Frantz, 80, a life-long resident of South Waverly, passed away peacefully at home, under the care of Guthrie Hospice and his family, on Sunday morning July 10, 2011.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, George and Alice Frantz; sisters Alice and Josephine; brother Donald; and his beloved wife of 49 years, Jennie Rose "Ginger" Cheresnowski Frantz.
Dick is survived by his sister Betty Seymour of Waverly, NY; his three sons Richard of South Waverly; Stephen and wife Mary of Towson, MD; and Michael and wife Yesim of Litchfield, PA. Dick is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Cory and Stephanie Frantz of Towson, MD; Altan Frantz of Litchfield, PA, and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dick was born on July 27, 1930 and graduated from Sayre High School in 1948. An outstanding three sport athlete, Dick had perfect form on his basketball set shot; could hit a baseball a country mile; and as a speedy split end was named to the All-Valley Football Team. Following graduation Dick was employed by Ingersoll-Rand in Athens where he met many of his friends and retired after 42 years of service. Dick gave generously of his time to his family and community. He was very active in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League and Babe Ruth. He served for many years as South Waverly Recreation Director where he organized Easter Egg Hunts, Marble Tournaments and Track Meets. Dick was also very active in the Holy Name Society of Saint John's Parish; served on the School Board of Sayre Area High School; and was re-elected several times as a very benevolent Tax Collector for South Waverly and Sayre Boroughs. Dick was a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather and dear friend to many. Dick was always upbeat and quick with a joke or good story. He often said that his favorite place in the world was his front porch when he was enjoying the company of his family and friends. Everyone who met Dick thought of him as a good and decent man. Those who knew him well considered him to be one of the greatest guys they ever met. Dick will be dearly missed. A Funeral Mass will be offered by Pastor Emeritus Rev. Vincent F. Langan at the Epiphany Catholic Church on Thursday, July 14 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Tioga Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Luckner Funeral Home, 449 Park Ave., Waverly, NY on Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Those wishing may direct a memorial donation in Dick's name to Guthrie Hospice or a charity of choice.
