Obituary

After a gallant struggle with heart disease, our Dad, Raymond George Canzler, passed, in his home, from our loving arms to Jesus, on Dec. 25, 2013. He died with his wife, Hilde (Eckert) Canzler, his children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren present at his side. Dad was born at Saint Catherine's Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 10, 1926. Ray was a United States Army veteran with the rank of first sergeant during World War II. He moved his family from Rochelle Park, N.J., to Waverly, N.Y., in August 1954. Dad was owner/operator of Ray Canzler's Mobil Station on Chemung Street in Waverly for several years during the 1950s. Eventually, he took the position of general manager at Kohler Pontiac Sales in Sayre. After a short period of retirement, Dad returned to work under the employ of Jeff Barber with State Line Auto Auction in the early 1990s in the marketing department. After 22 years, Dad retired in August of 2012. Dad was most happy on the water with his family, sailing, boating and camping. He was quite the seaman. Our Dad was a gentle, patient and kind man. He and Mom gave their children a path of strength and high morals to imitate in our lives and to pass on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was respected by all who knew him. So, as a result of his goodness and love, he leaves behind his wife, Hilde; his children, Jane and husband Lynn Watros, Raymond Canzler Jr., Arlene (John) Ruttle, Judith Canzler, Michael (Janice) Canzler, Elizabeth (Michael) Bowen, Christine (Brian) Twigg and James (Susan) Canzler; his grandchildren, James, Annette, Sherri, Paris, Robert, John, Matthew, Peter, Ian, Vanessa, Holly, Laura, Erica, Russell, Christine, Brian, Stacey, Kurt, Hali and Megan; his great-grandchildren, James, Jonathan, Alexia, Delany, Max, Hannah, Carter, Madison, Sobrena, Nellie, Declan, Henry, Kaedyn, Michael, Sawyer and Rachel; also Buddy and Mitsi, his doggie and kitty children. Ray is survived by his brother, Richard (Josie) Canzler; sisters, Theresa (George) Riley and Elizabeth Dixon; brother and sister-in-law, George (Marie) Eckert; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Catherine (Koch) Canzler; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Viola Canzler; brothers-in-law, Carl Eckert and William Dixon; son-in-law, James Heffner; and finally, his beloved son, Robert Arthur Canzler. Dad devoted all of himself to his family. Thank you, Dad, for loving us so much!!! Family and friends may call Monday, Dec. 30 from 4-7 p.m. at the Luckner Funeral Home, 449 Park Ave., Waverly.
