Margaret Louise Fairbanks Aronstam, 90, of Waverly passed away Friday April 24, 2015 at Sena Kean manor in Smethport, Pennsylvania. Born January 25 1925 in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of the late Margaret (Maher) and Louis Fairbanks, and loving wife of the late Robert H. Aronstam.
Margaret graduated from the Bellevue School of Nursing in New York. She served in the the Cadet Nurse Corp during World War II and continued as a registered nurse at Bellevue after the war. She met her heart's companion, Robert H. Aronstam, in the seventh grade. They married on August 14, 1944, while she was still in nursing school and he was a US Army private attending medical school. Together they raised a beautiful family. Margaret returned to work first as an operating room nurse for the US Public Health Service, and then as an instructor in Medical and Surgical Nursing at the Robert Packer School of Nursing, training a new generation of students who dedicated their yearbook to her. Margaret was also the 1st Infection Control Nurse at Robert Packer Hospital and worked in that role until her retirement in 1980. Margaret served two terms as a Village of Waverly Trustee and led the Street Commission and the Tree Committee. She was active in many other civic activities in Waverly. She was a devoted and active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Waverly.
Surviving Margaret are her children; Robin (Joseph) Gower, of New Jersey, Christine (William) Pedrick, of Elmira, Robert S. (Joan) Aronstam, of MO., and Andrew (Patricia) Aronstam, of Waverly. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren; Emily, David, Robert, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, Alexandra, Andrew, Mariah, and Abigail.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Friday May 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Episcopal Church, Park Avenue Waverly, NY with Reverend Benjamin Lentz officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
