Obituary

JOHN J. O'BRIEN John died on February 17, 2015 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he had lived for the past 21 years.  John was born in Waverly, New York to the late William O'Brien and Justine (Cullen) O'Brien. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint James Church (Blessed Trinity Parish) in Waverly, New York on Saturday, April 25 at 10:00 am.  There will be an opportunity for family and friends to gather in the narthex of Saint James Church from 9:00 to 10:00 am prior to mass. Following the burial at Saint James Cemetery in Waverly, New York, a reception will be held in the social hall (lower level) of Saint James Church.  Family and friends are invited. John J. O'Brien APRIL 26, 1946 FEBRUARY 17, 2015 John O'Brien,68, died February 17, 2015 from renal failure at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  He was born in Waverly, New York to the late William O'Brien (born in Waverly, New York) and Justine (Cullen) O'Brien (born in Athens, Pa.).  Following graduation from Canisius College, he received an honorable discharge from the Army ROTC.  John graduated from The Boston College of Law.  He spent most of his career with Pepsico Corp. in the I.T. Dept. where he traveled extensively.  John made many friends during this time and was a very generous and selfless person who helped others less fortunate.  He was also a mentor to those reporting to him and assisted in advancing their careers. John retired from Pepsico in 2002 as Director of I.T. Operations in Winston-Salem.  Although retired, John's generosity continued even to a greater degree. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen.  John is survived by brothers Bill and his wife, Blanche, of Hudson, Ohio, Mike and his wife Bridgett and their children Patrick, Kathy, Tracy and Kelly, Father Thomas O'Brien, Columbus, Ohio, nephew Father Bill O'Brien, S.J. of St. Louis, Missouri, niece, Colleen M. O'Brien Cherry, PHD,  and her husband Mark T. Cherry of Athens, Georgia and their children, Bramwell and Aidan. Memorial donations may be made to any Catholic charity or local Veterans Association.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Luckner Funeral Home in Waverly, New York.  Times for Mass of Christian Burial at the Blessed Trinity Church and internment in St. James Cemetery, both of Waverly, New York, will be announced at a future date due to weather restrictions.
