John Joseph Conroy, 92, of Waverly passed away August 4 th , 2010 at the Elderwood Healthcare Facility in Waverly, NY. He was born on September 23, 1917, in Elmira, NY.
John lived in Waverly for over sixty years. He worked for Remington Rand, located in Elmira, NY, until it closed in the mid sixties. He was a loyal employee for over thirty years. Subsequently, he was employed at the A&P Plant in Horseheads, NY, and retired in 1976. He was a devote Catholic and a member of Saint James Roman Catholic Church in Waverly, NY. John was a Veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. He was a 1935 graduate of Elmira Southside High School.
On November 9, 1946, he married Margaret Hogan of Waverly, New York. They were married for fifty six years. He was completely devoted to her and expressed his love for her every day of his life. She predeceased him in April of 2000.
During his life, he was always a gentlemen and was always the happiest when he was helping others. He taught more by his example than words. He loved his three sons deeply and they in turn are so very proud of how he lived his life.
He is survived by his sons and daughters in law; Joseph F. Conroy, of Arlington,VA., Michael G. (Paulette) Conroy of Manlius, NY and John P. (Mary) Conroy, of Liverpool,NY, his seven grandchildren, his faithful and devoted friend Dr. Alan K. Dimon and the ROMEOs.
The family would like to thank all the employees at the Elderwood Assisted Living Facility and Nursing Home for providing John with so much love, care and respect. Your devotion to John made you part of his family and he loved all of you. His family will be eternally grateful.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 7 th at 12:00 noon at Saint James Church, Clark Street, Waverly, NY. Reverend Bill Moorby will celebrate the Mass. Internment will follow in Saint James Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are with the Luckner Funeral Home 449 Park Avenue, Waverly, NY.
