Obituary

George H. Stedge of Waverly George H. Stedge, 72, of Waverly NY was called home after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday April 8th to be reunited with his son Brian K. Stedge, and grandson Gaige Robert Manuel. Also predeceased by his Brother in law Michael Coleman. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife Christine at his side. He was born September 19, 1941 in Waverly NY, the son of the late Benjamin T. Stedge and his birth mother Mildred Forbes and his step mother Freda (Salsman) Stedge. George married his wife Christine on July 7, 1974. The Stedge's resided in Waverly, raising their two children; Colleen (Manuel) and Brian Stedge, along with children from George's first marriage Wayne G. Stedge, and Sue Ellen Stedge. George worked as a machinist for Ingersoll- Rand Tool Company for forty years from 1964-2004. During the seventies he became avid in racing. His  #0 four cylinder car raced many races at Chemung Speedrome to bring him a few track championships. He returned to the very same track in 2000 to become the Head Tech Inspector. He was also a tech inspector at the Shangrila Speedway. For fifteen years George served as an EMT & Line officer for the Valley Ambulance Corps. In George's early years, he served as the president and a Coach at the Waverly Little League. George was a very dedicated and loving man to his family and friends. His grandchildren are; Matthew Sidey, Thomas and Christine Wright, Jessica, Reese, Wayne, Marie, and Blair Stedge, Kiana and  Dalton Manuel, McKenzie, Bailey and Austyn Stedge. His special grandchildren are Kiana and Dalton Manuel, who he was blessed to spend every day with. He taught Kiana how to play one of the sports she is passionate about, Softball, spending day after day playing catch with her and pitching the ball to her since she was four years old! And Dalton; Dalton was his pride and joy whom he taught many things to, how to build things, tear things apart, but most special are all those Friday nights at the track at the Chemung Speedrome. Dalton was his "junior" tech inspector who was in the pits by Poppy's' side learning the ropes of racing and the rules to include knowing parts that were legal and those that were not legal on those cars! Surviving George are his wife Christine (Coleman) Stedge, son Wayne G (Michelle) Stedge, daughters; Sue Ellen Stedge, and Colleen (Robert) Manuel, Brothers; Donald (Winifred) Stedge, William (Diane) Stedge, and James Stedge.
