Obituary

Francis J.  Sovinsky, 94, of Waverly, died Wednesday February 12, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born March 2, 1919 in  Waverly, New York, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Faltisco) Sovinsky  and loving husband of the late Edith (Duff) Sovinsky, and father of the late Patricia Biondolillo.  Francis was a lifelong  resident of the Valley.  He attended  St. James Church Blessed Trinity Parish in Waverly. Francis was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II.  He was a sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Waverly Moose where he loved to play poker. He retired from Stroehmann Bakery after many years of service. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering at the Trophy Shop in Waverly.  Francis especially enjoyed his beloved cat "Sam".  Surviving Francis are his loving  daughters, Jean Sovinsky, of Albany, N.Y. and Sandy (Edward) Bloss of Athens; his seven grandchildren, Dana (David) Fowler, Randy Lewis, Sarah, Gregory, and Kevin Bloss, Christine (Jim) Zades, and James (Karen) Biondolillo; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his special companion and caregiver, Louis Cannavino, who made the last year for Francis very meaningful, and many dear friends. Francis was a devoted husband, father, grand, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.  At Francis's request  funeral services will be private.
