Donald V. Johnson
Donald V. Johnson, 78, of Waverly, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 after several years of failing health.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Donald moved to Waverly in the 1960s and began his career in the Waverly Central School District. After a few years, he moved into his long-time position as a guidance counselor at Waverly High School; finishing his career as Coordinator of Pupil Services in the early 1990s.
An avid gardener, Don enjoyed sharing his harvest. He could often be found at New Image Fitness Center or Dessert First Bakery with bags of vegetables for anyone who might enjoy them. Don also enjoyed reading, the thrill of gambling on horse races, and finding bargains – especially at the grocery store. Prior to his decline in health, Don was a very active member of Saint James Church in Waverly. A man of great faith, Don enjoyed volunteering on various church committees.
Don touched the hearts of many with his kindness, generosity, optimistic attitude, wicked sense of humor, and his loud, boisterous laugh. He will be dearly missed.
