Richard A. Robinson, 80, of Chemung, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his home. Richard was born in Elmira, NY on February 6, 1938 to the late George and Elizabeth Gray Robinson. He celebrated his 80th birthday with his family just a few days before his passing.He was a 1956 graduate of Waverly High School where he excelled at football and wrestling. He went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. He married his high school sweetheart on September 7, 1960. Richard was a vice-president of Charles F. Evans Roofing Co. in Elmira, NY and all who knew him knew how proud he was of his work – most especially on the Cornell University Campus. He retired from the company in 1988 but continued working for many years as a roofing consultant. To his friends he was known as “Robby”. He was an avid golfer, Notre Dame and New York Yankee fan. Until his declining health no longer allowed it, he enjoyed travelling with his wife, family and friends with a favorite destination being North Myrtle Beach SC. He was a member of the Valley Notre Dame Club and past president of Shepard Hills Country Club. In his later years he enjoyed watching college basketball with his wife and playing cards with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his “true” stories he loved to tell. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia Clark Robinson; three sons – Tracy (Maria) Robinson of Goshen NY, Todd Robinson of Chemung, Ted (Terri) Robinson of Chemung; two daughters – Pamela (Phil) Beard of Waverly NY and Dianna (Tania) Curren of Spencer NY; grandsons – Dr. Richard Curren, Michael, Marcus and Mason Beard, Eric Curren, Nigel Robinson and Andrew Robinson; granddaughters – Renee Crane, Mikala Haskins, Brianne Curren, Tricia and Taylor Robinson; great grandchildren – Olivia, Mikendra and Kaleb; sisters-in-law – Marjorie (Tom) Madigan, Dianna (Blaine) Woodruff and Kay Clark; several nieces and nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; 3 brothers – Gordon, Donald and George Jr.; one sister – Jane; and a great granddaughter – Emalyn.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm at the Chemung Methodist Church, Main Street, Chemung NY with the funeral service to follow at 3pm with Mr. Chuck Carver.I n lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Robby’s memory to The Nancy Quattrini Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, Guthrie Clinic, Sayre PA.
