Hildegarde Eckert Canzler
Our Mom, 88 yrs. old, left our loving arms and into the arms of her Creator on April 26, 2017. Her children and some of her grandchildren were present during this time at her daughter Arlene (John) Ruttle's home in Binghamton, N.Y. Prior to meeting and marrying our Dad on March 25, 1949 in Oradell, N.J., Mom, her parents and two brothers endured a life in Hamburg, Germany during the entirety of World War II.  Upon reaching the age of fourteen, she joined the Red Cross Unit in Germany and while in nurses training, she cared for, both, Axis and Allied troops during the war.  Her experiences during this time contributed to our Mother's strength of character and spontaneous, sharp humor.  Her children benefited from her unique perspective on life, guiding us to be independent adults.  Our parents engrained in us the importance of honesty and hard work.  Their message of strength and love emanates within us and is passed on to our children and grandchildren. Mom was a homemaker but occasionally drifted into the "Sports World Arena".  Her athletic skills and competitive nature brought home a few bowling trophies from the Waverly leagues.  When golf completely took her over, we wondered if we would ever see her again!  Of course, you could always find her at any number of rummage sales in the valley on Fridays and Saturdays.  No one could ''take her" at horseshoes.  She presently holds the "Family Horseshoe Championship" title.  Mom was an outstanding artist. She loved to do oil paintings.  Her art showed up in different venues in our home and especially at Christmas time. Classical music was especially comforting to Mom with the occasional "Barbara Streisand", back in the day. Somehow, she also found time to knit beautiful blankets, hats, scarfs and gloves for everybody.  Still, a wholesome German meal was on the table every night. Mom loved her nine children, twenty grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.  She also loved, dearly, her four-legged babies---all of them rescues.  She passed her compassion, respect and love of animals and nature on to all of us. Mom leaves behind her children--- Jane and husband Lynn Watros, Raymond Canzler Jr., Arlene (John) Ruttle, Judith Canzler, Michael (Janice) Canzler, Elizabeth (Michael) Bowen, Christine (Brian) Twigg, James (Sue) Canzler.  Her Grandchildren---James, Annette, Sherri, Paris, Robert, John, Matthew, Peter, Ian, Vanessa, Holly, Laura, Erica, Russell, Christine, Brian, Stacy, Kurt, Hali, Megan and her much loved Great-Grandchildren and her brother George (Marie) Eckert and family.  Also, her fur-babies Buddy, her dog and Mitsi, her cat will miss their Mommy.  She left behind numerous, loving family in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mom is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Canzler Sr., son, Robert (Ann) Canzler, parents Frederick and Martha Eckert, brother, Carl Eckert and Great-Granddaughter, Alexia Jane Monroe Ronnbeck. Thank you Mom for being our Mom and loving us forever!!! Friends and family are invited to call Thursday May 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Luckner Funeral Home 449 Park Avenue Waverly, NY.
